SHADOWS FALL

The roots of SHADOWS FALL began in the summer of 1995
when the writing team of Jonathan Donais and Matthew Bachand,
then good friends from the local music scene, began searching for a creative outlet to make
use of their unique preferences in music and not restrict them from going into any musical direction.
Being both active members of the heavy music scene, Matthew Bachand being a founding member of the veteran death metal band EXHUMED and Jonathan Donais from the metal core band AFTERSHOCK, they saw the need to create something truly original.
For the next year they assembled material that would break new ground
in the world of extreme music and held auditions for musicians to complete the lineup.

After months of serching for the right musicians to write and perform songs spawned
from every style of music imaginable, drummer David Germain,
a member of numerous jazz and industrial acts, was added to the lineup in July 1996.
Still without a bassist at this point, Mark Laiberte also from AFTERSHOCK, joined the band on a temporary basis until a replacement could be found.

Soon there after, vocalist Damien McPherson was initiated and SHADOWS FALL was born.
In November 1996 they headed into the studio to record their first offering entitled
"Mourning a Dead World"
a six song demo recorded specifically to capture the energy of their live shows
which are matched by few in intensity and emotion.
Featuring a diverse range of musicial influences including death, hardcore, thrash, jazz, rock,
and classical among others, and their intericate use of three vocalists.

SHADOWS FALL has instantly created a buzz in a local music scene
unlike any other that has raised them to the top of the heap among unsigned bands.
This status has gained them performances and radio airplay throughout New England and beyond
with such notable acts as CANNIBAL CORPSE, OBITUARY, EXODUS, IMMOLATION,
BRUTAL TRUTH, SKIN LAB, and OPPRESSOR among others.

After only three live shows Damien McPherson decided to leave the band
and the search was on for a new vocalist.
After a few shows with Matthew and Jonathan taking on all vocal responsibility a replacement was found. June 1997 brought the addition of ex-PERPETUAL DOOM vocalist/guitarist Philip Labonte
taking over the vocal responsibilities.
His overpowering voice wouldmake the SHADOWS FALL sound heavier then ever.
Between the release of "Mourning a Dead World" and the addition of Philip, many new songs were written to test the limits of experimentation.
With this, SHADOWS FALL was perparing to enter the studio once again to record their debut CD
for LIFELESS RECORDS entitled "Somber Eyes to the Sky", when a permenant replacement for Mark Laliberte was found.
Ex-PUSHBUTTON WAREFARE bassist Paul Romanko was added in July of 1997.
Now with a solid line up and an even greater musicial direction then when they started
SHADOWS FALL
proves to be one of the best kept secrets in extreme metal.
